Harvey T. Mapes, 80, of Rt. 4, died Friday afternoon in Culver Hospital; where he had been a patient since Monday. He had lived in the Mt. Zion neighborhood the last six years. A son of Thomas S. and Smariah McElwee Mapes, he was born July 8, (9) 1887 in Champaign County, Illinois. He was married Dec. 18, 1907 in Danville, Ill., to Belle Knight, who survives. They lived on a farm near Homer, Ill., then near Ogden, Ill., and farmed also in Vermillion County in that state before moving near Mace in 1921. Surviving besides his wife are a son, Harold of Rt. 2 a daughter, Mrs. Oscar Todd of Rt. 4; a brother, Earl Mapes of Newtown; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and five step-grandchildren. Preceding Mr. Mapes in death were a brother, two sisters and an infant granddaughter. Funeral services are announced for 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Bright Funeral Home, where friends may call after 7 p.m. Saturday. Rev. R. L. Covington will officiate, with burial in Stearns Cemetery north of Fithian, Ill.

Funeral services for Harvey T. Mapes were held Sunday afternoon at the Bright Funeral Home. Rev. R. L. Covington, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church, officiated. Serving as pallbearers were Robert W. Ferling of Lafayette, Richard Harris of Danville, Ill., Robert Nunan, Mark Todd, Rolland E. Harris and Rex Mapes. Curtis E. Bright played requested selections, which included "Whispering Hope," "Precious Memories" and "Beyond the Sunset." Burial was in the Stearns Cemetery, north of Fithian, Ill.

CRAWFORDSVILLE -- Harvey T. Mapes, 80, Crawfordsville Route 4, died at Culver Hospital at 1:05 p.m. yesterday (Jan. 5, 1968). Born July 9, 1887 in Champaign County, Ill. near St. Joseph, he was the son of Thomas S. and Smariah McElwee Mapes. Mr. Mapes was married Dec. 18, 1907 in Danville, Ill., to Belle Knight. She survives. He attended Champaign County schools and lived near Ogden from 1913 until 1921. He then moved to a farm near Mace (Parkersburg - via descendant Rex M) and was there until six years ago at which time he moved to the Crawfordsville address. He is survived by a son, Harold, of Crawfordsville; a daughter, Mrs. Oscar Todd, of Crawfordsville; a brother, Earl, of Newtown; six grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Mr. Mapes was preceded in death by a brother, two sisters, and an infant daughter. Friends will be received at the Bright Funeral Home in Crawfordsville after 7 p.m. today. Services will be at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. EST Sunday, with the Rev. R. L. Covington officiating. Burial will be in Stearns Cemetery, north of Fithian.
